Panthers Make Home Debut Against Thrashers

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers will try to spoil Florida's home debut, as they take on the Panthers tonight at BankAtlantic Center.

The Thrashers began their season at home with a 7-4 win over Washington, getting two goals and an assist from Bryan Little. Little's offense made a winner out of head coach John Anderson in his debut on the bench.

Atlanta will hope for more tonight out of Little, who was selected in the first round of the 2006 draft. He netted six goals in 48 games last year.

Vyacheslav Kozlov, Todd White and Ron Hainsey, making his debut with the club, each notched a goal and assist for the Thrashers, while Niclas Havelid recorded three assists. Kari Lehtonen stopped 39-of-43 shots for Atlanta.

Zach Bogosian, the third overall pick of the 2008 draft, became the youngest player in team history to play in a regular-season contest in the win. At 18 years and 87 days old, Bogosian took the record from Ilya Kovalchuk, who was 18 years and 172 days old when he made his NHL debut on October 4, 2001.

Defenseman Mathieu Schneider also made his Atlanta debut, finishing a minus- one with four shots and no points.

Florida, meanwhile, holds the league's longest current postseason drought, having not made the playoffs since 2000, and didn't get its current campaign off to the best start thanks to a 6-4 loss to Carolina on Friday.

Former Hurricane Cory Stillman. as well as David Booth, had a goal and assist each for Florida, while Radek Dvorak and Nathan Horton also scored. Defenseman Bryan McCabe had an assist in his Florida debut before leaving in the second period with a back injury.

Tomas Vokoun allowed five goals on 23 shots and the Panthers lost in head coach Peter DeBoer's debut behind the bench.

Florida plays the first of three straight home games, and will also host Minnesota and the New York Islanders on this stand.

The Panthers won five of eight versus the Thrashers a year ago, though the clubs split four meetings in Florida.
