Thrashers Sign Williams

Monday, July 14, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers have signed veteran forward Jason Williams to an undisclosed contract.

Williams recorded 13 goals and 23 assists for 36 points in 43 games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season. He missed time because of a sports hernia that eventually required surgery.

The 27-year-old native of Ontario has appeared in 296 games with Chicago and Detroit, compiling 66 goals and 92 assists for 158 points. He has also posted a goal and an assist in 20 playoff games, capturing a Stanley Cup title in 2002 with the Red Wings.

Williams originally signed as a free agent with Detroit in 2000 and was traded to Chicago in exchange for Kyle Calder on February 26, 2007.
