Who Pays For The Dance:

How To Dress:

Tuxes are the norm. Think twice about getting creative.

The Flowers:

You'll need to spring for a corsage.

Find out the color of your date's dress and make sure the flowers match. The florist will know.

If you have the guts to do this in front of her father, you pin it on the left side. If you don't have the guts, make sure to at least open the box before you hand it to her.

If you were smart and got the wrist kind, it goes on the left, too

If you're a real suck-up, bring her mom a little bouquet as well.

Girls:

Order a boutonniere. It can match your dress. That would be cute, don't you think?

The Ride:

If you're driving your own car, give it a cleaning. Prom dresses are very good at picking up dirt.

Don't be a tool. Open the door for her.

If you're going in a limo, ladies get in first. Guys get out first and give her a hand.

The Restaurant:

It's generally up to you to pick the place.

If you're going to a nice place, make a reservation.

Think about your date's tastes. If she's allergic to shellfish, skip the seafood restaurant. A bad case of hives will end the evening early. And you don't want that, do you? If she's a vegetarian, skip the steakhouse.

Wait until everyone is served before you start a course.

Show up at the restaurant on time. If you're late, you can lose your reservations.

Pull out the chair for her if the restaurant guy doesn't.

If you're paying (and the guy usually does), tip 15%-20%.

Girls:

Don’t order the lobster, especially if he already dug deep for the dance tickets.

Girls and Guys:

Don't badger the waiter or waitress. You may be one someday and payback is hell.

Napkin goes on the lap before dinner.

Silverware works from the outside in. (The little fork one on the far left is for the salad.)

Your bread plate is on the left side of your place setting.

Your glass is at the top right corner.

Chew with your mouth closed.

The Dance:

As a famous Texas writer once said, "Dance with them what brung ya." Don't leave your date hanging.

No primping on the dance floor. That's why you girls all go to the restroom at once.
