Have you set and started all of your new year’s resolutions? Regardless of whether or not you’ve got things in motion, we have another resolution you might consider adding to your list – quitting your bad habit of texting and driving! This form of distracted driving is especially dangerous. Texting while driving makes you 23 times MORE likely to get into an accident! There’s no time like the present to kick it to the curb. Toyota of Clermont has all the safe driving tips you need to make it happen!

Use these tips and tricks to quit your habit of texting and driving

First tip to kick texting and driving – remember the old adage “out of sight, out of mind”? It applies here. If you can’t see your phone lighting up with text messages, you won’t be tempted to answer them. Put your phone in your purse, in your pocket, or in your glove box and be sure to turn off the sound and vibration.

Another way to stop your bad habit of texting and driving is to download an app that prevents you from doing so (and our Clermont Toyota dealership also recommends this if you have a new teen driver in the family). The app will lock your phone while your vehicle is in motion so you can’t text, Facebook, or use any other apps until you’ve come to a stop!

If you feel like you can’t be unreachable when you’re behind the wheel, then you have to find an alternative to texting and driving. Our suggestion? The hands-free Bluetooth technology that’s integrated into so many of our new Toyota cars in Clermont! This technology integrates voice commands, steering wheel controls, and Bluetooth wireless streaming to allow you to make and take phone calls when you’re behind the wheel without ever taking your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road. It’s much safer than texting and driving!

You can also have a passenger text back for you – this takes the responsibility out of your hands and places it in the hands of someone who’s NOT in charge of navigating your Clermont Toyota. If you don’t have any passengers in your car and you really feel you need to answer a text, pull over – find a parking lot to bring your vehicle to a complete stop before you answer.

Find a new Toyota in Clermont with the connectivity you need!

And remember, texting and driving isn’t the only form of distracted driving! You should also refrain from grooming, eating and drinking, and playing with your radio. Any activity that takes your attention off the road and your hands off the wheel is distracted driving and puts both you and your passengers in danger, not to mention the other people on the road!
