Toyota of Clermont busts some car maintenance myths!

Updated:

As soon as you get a car, you start to hear and read advice on how to maintain it. Car maintenance is a quintessential part of keeping your car performing properly. With all of the advice that is out there, how do you know what’s best for your Clermont Toyota? Our service team is here to help! We’ve put together a list of some of the biggest car maintenance myths out there, and we’ve busted them!

Don’t fall for these car maintenance myths!

Myth #1: You must get your car maintenance done at the dealership where you bought the car in order to keep the warranty valid

When you first bought your car, the dealership may have told you that in order to keep the warranty valid on your car; you would have to get all of your car maintenance done with them. That’s not really true. It doesn’t matter where you get your auto service, as long as it’s done. Though we do recommend keeping receipts and other records just in case there is a warranty inquiry.

Myth #2: Premium gas is always better for your car

Most of the vehicles on the road and that you’ll find on our car lot in Clermont are designed to perform at their best with regular-grade fuel. That means there’s no need to spend the extra amount on premium fuel when you’re at the pump. Premium wouldn’t hurt your car or its engine, but it wouldn’t do enough to improve its performance to justify the cost.

Myth #3: You should replace your coolant every time you get an oil change

Our service team in Clermont recommends getting an oil change every 5,000 miles if you’re using conventional oil. When you take a look inside of your car manual, it says to change your coolant every two to three years, or every time you hit 60,000 miles. You could be changing your coolant 12 times more than you have to if you change it every time you get your oil changed!

Myth #4: A battery will fully recharge after a jump start in only a few minutes of driving

Be sure not to follow this myth! It can take hours of driving to fully charge your car battery. And if it’s damaged, it might not even hold a full charge for that long at all. If you’re having battery issues, be sure to get it looked at by an auto service specialist. That way you can figure out what’s causing the issues and whether or not you need a replacement.
