Pittsburgh, PA -- Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Sidney Crosby tallied the lone goal in the shootout as Pittsburgh rallied from a two-goal deficit to clip Florida, 3-2, at Mellon Arena. Crosby opened the second round with a wrister past Florida netminder Tomas Vokoun. Both shooters failed thereafter and Nathan Horton's last-ditch effort to keep the game going was foiled when Brent Johnson made a glove stop. Crosby also recorded two scores in regulation for the Penguins, who won their seventh consecutive game and have opened the season at 9-1-0, their best start since going 12-0-1 during the lockout- shortened 1995 year. Johnson made 27 stops for his first win of the season. Steve Reinprecht scored twice for the Panthers, who have dropped six of seven. Vokoun was strong in defeat, turning aside 41 shots.Final Score: St. Louis 3, Minnesota 1 St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - David Perron notched a goal and an assist, as the St. Louis Blues got by the Minnesota Wild, 3-1, at Scottrade Center. Jay McClement and Brad Boyes also tallied for the Blues, who claimed their first win on home ice this season. St. Louis has won two of the last three after dropping the previous three contests. Chris Mason was steady between the pipes for the Blues, stopping 20 of 21 shots. Chuck Kobasew registered the lone goal for Minnesota, which has lost six of its last seven. Niklas Backstrom made 23 saves in defeat. Final Score: Colorado 5, Carolina 4 Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Paul Stastny scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist, as the Colorado Avalanche outlasted the Carolina Hurricanes, 5-4, at the Pepsi Center. Wojtek Wolski, Milan Hejduk, and Ryan O'Reilly each had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who have won five of their past six games. Chris Stewart and Matt Duchene had two assists apiece. Craig Anderson turned aside 32-of-36 shots for Colorado, which was coming off a seven-game road trip where they posted a 4-1-2 record. Tuomo Ruutu had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes, who have lost five in a row. Matt Cullen, Ray Whitney, and Joseph Corvo each lit the lamp. Cam ward stopped 31-of-36 shots in defeat.
