NHL Today: Rangers Stay Hot, Stop Senators

Rangers 5, Senators 1
NEW YORK -- Jaromir Jagr scored a goal and added two assists, as the New York Rangers remained hot with a 5-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators at Madison Square Garden. Martin Straka added two helpers while Henrik Lundqvist was solid in net with 24 saves for the Rangers, who won their fourth straight game and remained atop the Atlantic Division with 74 points. Chris Kelly scored the lone goal for the Senators, who have lost two of their last three games overall. Dominik Hasek allowed five goals on 23 shots in the loss as Ottawa failed to score on eight power-play opportunities.

Flyers 5, Islanders 2
PHILADELPHIA -- Mike Richards registered his first career hat trick to lead the Philadelphia Flyers past the New York Islanders, 5-2, at the Wachovia Center. Jeff Carter and R.J. Umberger tallied a goal and an assist each and Robert Esche made 20 saves for Philadelphia, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Trent Hunter and Miroslav Satan scored the Islanders goals and Garth Snow stopped 22 shots for New York, which has lost three of its last four contests.

Blue Jackets 7, Kings 4
COLMBUS, Ohio -- Trevor Letowski and Jason Chimera each netted two goals to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 7-4 victory over the Los Angeles Kings at Nationwide Arena. David Vyborny and Jaroslav Balastik each tallied a goal and an assist and Sergei Fedorov had the other marker for the Blue Jackets, who have won six of their last seven games. Marc Denis made 23 saves for Columbus, which snapped a three-game losing streak against Los Angeles. Derek Armstrong, Eric Belanger and Dustin Brown each had a goal and an assist for the Kings, who have dropped a season-high seven straight games. Mathieu Garon allowed six goals on 34 shots before being pulled late in the third period. Jason LaBarbera took over the netminding duties and stopped the one shot he faced.

Bruins 3, Penguins 1
PITTSBURGH -- Brad Stuart scored a pair of goals and Tim Thomas came up with 16 saves as the Boston Bruins downed the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-1, at Mellon Arena. Travis Green scored the other goal and Glen Murray donated two assists for the Bruins, who have won six of their last nine games. Tomas Surovy broke up Thomas' shutout late in the third and Eric Boguniecki had the assist for Pittsburgh, which has dropped seven in a row and 17 of its last 18. Marc-Andre Fleury made 35 saves in the loss.

Red Wings 6, Predators 0
DETROIT -- Manny Legace recorded his second consecutive shutout and both Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk registered a goal and two assists, as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Nashville Predators 6-0 at Joe Louis Arena in the start of a home-and-home series. Nicklas Lidstrom and Mikael Samuelsson tallied a goal and assist each and Legace made 20 saves for Detroit, which has won four straight and five of its last six games. Brendan Shanahan and Mathieu Schneider also scored goals for the Red Wings. Legace, who notched his fifth shutout of the season, hasn't been scored upon in his last 165:06 of playing time. The netminder recorded the first back-to- back shutouts for Detroit since Dominik Hasek did it on December 21 and 23, 2001. Tomas Vokoun stopped 24 shots before being replaced by Chris Mason, who gave up two goals on eight shots, for Nashville, which has lost two straight and five of its last seven games.

Flames 3, Mighty Ducks 1
CALGARY, Alb. -- Miikka Kiprusoff made 31 saves to lead the Calgary Flames to a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Mighty Ducks at Pengrowth Saddledome. Matthew Lombardi, Daymond Langkow and Chris Simon all netted power-play goals for the Flames, who have won their last two games after dropping three consecutive contests. Andy McDonald netted the only goal for the Mighty Ducks, who have lost two straight and three of their last four games. Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 21 shots in the loss.

Blues 4, Canucks 2
VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Keith Tkachuk and Petr Cajanek each tallied a goal and added two assists as the St. Louis Blues defeated the Vancouver Canucks, 4-2, at General Motors Place. Mark Rycroft added a goal and an assist for the Blues, who have won three games in a row. Curtis Sanford started in net for St. Louis and made 12 saves in the first period. He was replaced by Patrick Lalime at the start of the second stanza due to back spasms. Lalime finished with 19 saves on 20 shots. Todd Bertuzzi and Richard Park scored while Markus Naslund picked up two assists for the Canucks, who lost for only the second time in the last six games overall. Alex Auld allowed four goals on 24 shots in the loss.

Sharks 2, Blackhawks 1
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Vesa Toskala came up with 29 saves as the San Jose Sharks edged the Chicago Blackhawks, 2-1, at HP Pavilion. Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton both scored for the Sharks, who snapped a three-game skid. Kyle Calder had the lone goal for Chicago, which has dropped four of five. Craig Anderson stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced in the loss.
