C-USA Tourney Begins Wednesday For No. 16 UCF

PEARL, Miss. - The following is a press release from UCF Athletics.

The No. 16 UCF baseball team is set to begin its run at the Conference USA Championship when it takes on (7) UAB Thursday afternoon at 12 p.m. EDT. The Knights (41-14) are the No. 2 seed in the tournament taking place at Trustmark Park.

This is the first of three contests that UCF will play while holding down the top seed in their pod. On Friday, the Knights will take on (6) East Carolina at 4 p.m. and finish pod play on Saturday at noon against (3) Tulane. Should UCF possess the best record in its pod, it will play for the C-USA Championship on Sunday at 2 p.m.

In 2012, UCF posted a combined record of 7-2 against teams from its pod.

All of the matchups from Pearl can be seen live on ConferenceUSA.com and can be heard on 740-AM The Game with the Voice of the Knights, Marc Daniels, calling all of the action.

UCF will send freshman lefty Eric Skoglund to the mound on Thursday. The Sarasota native was recently named to the All-C-USA Freshman Team after compiling a 5-1 record and 2.01 ERA during the regular season. He will be opposed by UAB’s (29-27) Michael Busby (4-4, 4.20 ERA) whom the Knights dropped seven runs on 10 hits in their walk-off Easter-Sunday victory earlier this year.

In the C-USA Championship, UCF is 3-7 all-time entering this week. The No. 2 seed is the highest in program history. Last year, the Knights went 2-1 in pod play at Trustmark Park with wins over Memphis and UAB before falling to No. 1 seed Rice.
