Knights coaches confident in freshman starting QB

ong> - UCF expected to have youth under center this season following the departure of Blake Bortles to the NFL.
It turns out the Knights coaching staff is more than comfortable going with one of its youngest available options as his successor.
UCF coach George O'Leary ended preseason speculation by naming freshman Pete DiNovo the Knights starter on Sunday. It closed an extended evaluation period for four quarterbacks vying for the role in advance of the Knights Aug. 30 opener in Ireland against Penn State.
With three weeks to prepare for his first college snap, offensive coordinator Charlie Taaffe said Monday that it will be up to DiNovo to maintain the consistency which could make him the Knights first freshman to start a season opener at quarterback since Daunte Culpepper in 1995.
