Miami loses votes for 2 Super Bowl bids

BOSTON (AP) — Miami lost out on a chance to host the Super Bowl in 2016 and 2017.

And the team says it knows why.

The Florida Legislature's decision not to approve a plan to renovate the Dolphins' stadium doomed the area's hope of hosting the NFL championship games. League owners voted in Boston on Tuesday to send the 2016 Super Bowl to San Francisco and the '17 game to Houston.

Dolphins owner Steve Ross says he won't stop trying to bring the game to South Florida.

Ross says $350 million in stadium improvements are badly needed, but he's unwilling to foot the entire bill himself.
