Predators End Disappointing Season With Win

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Predators (4-14) captured their final game of the 2012 season against the Milwaukee Mustangs (5-13) on Sunday. The Predators won, 49-39, over the Mustangs, bringing their final record to 4-14 for the 2012 season.

The Predators received the football to start the game and were able to score on their first possession on a 14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Chris Leak to wide receiver Jarvis Williams. The Mustangs tied the score on their first possession of the game on a 14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Gino Guidugli to wide receiver Jared Jenkins. With under a minute left in the first quarter, the Predators were able to find the end  zone on a three-yard touchdown pass from Leak to Williams-his second of the quarter. The score gave Orlando a 14-7 lead, and brought an end to the first quarter.

Milwaukee opened up the second quarter with possession of the ball. On the second play of the drive, Guidugli threw a pass that was intercepted by Orlando defensive back Simeon Castille. The Predators were able to capitalize off the turnover by scoring on a six-yard touchdown pass from Leak to Williams, extending their lead, 21-7. The Mustangs were able to add a 22-yard field goal by kicker Jose Martinez on their next possession. On the following kickoff, Milwaukee failed an onside kick-attempt and Orlando defensive back Travis Coleman recovered. The Predators were able to take advantage of the good field position by scoring on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Leak to wide receiver Glen Fox. With under a minute to play left in the first half, the Mustangs were able to find the end zone on a one-yard rushing touchdown by Guidugli. On the Predators next drive, Orlando fumbled the football, giving Milwaukee possession inside the Predators ten-yard-line. The Mustangs scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown by Guidugli-his second rushing touchdown of the quarter. The touchdown brought an end to the first half, with the Predators leading, 28-24.

The Mustangs kicked off the second half by scoring a touchdown on their opening possession, taking the lead for the first time in the game, 31-28. On the following kickoff, Preds wide receiver T.T. Toliver returned the kick 52 yards for a touchdown. On Milwaukee’s next possession, Guidugli threw a pass that was intercepted by Coleman. Orlando capitalized off of the turnover by scoring on a one-yard rushing touchdown by fullback Chris Jamison. The score extended the Orlando lead, 42-31 and brought an end to the third quarter.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Guidugli threw a pass that was intercepted by Castille-his second interception of the game. On the Predators following drive, Toliver caught a 13-yard pass that put him at 10th all-time in receiving yards in AFL history. The Predators took advantage of Guidugli's third interception by scoring on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Leak to Williams. The Mustangs answered the score by scoring on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Guidugli to wide receiver Jonathan Wilson. On the following kickoff, Milwaukee failed an onside kick-attempt and Fox recovered, giving them possession on the Mustangs 17-yard-line. After a defensive stop, the Mustangs missed a field goal with under a minute to play, handing the ball back to the Predators. The Predators ran out the clock to win their final game of the 2012 season.

The Predators were led statistically by quarterback Chris Leak. Leak was 18-25, threw for 143 yards, and five touchdowns. Wide receivers Jarvis Williams and T.T. Toliver received the bulk of the receptions in the game. Williams caught seven passes for 60 yards and hauled in four touchdown passes, while Toliver caught seven passes for 67 yards.

The Preds were led on defense by defensive backs Simeon Castille and Travis Coleman. Castille had 11 total tackles and two interceptions, and Coleman had six total tackles and an interception.
