A new generation emerging at golf's oldest major

HOYLAKE, England (AP) — Tiger Woods is the big show at the British Open, especially now that he is back from another injury.

Playing in front of him during the opening round Thursday at Royal Liverpool will be Harris English. Two groups behind will be Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama. They were among 25 players at The Open who have this in common -- Woods has never won a major during their professional careers.

The oldest championship in golf features a new generation of stars. Nineteen different players have won majors since Woods captured his last one six years ago.

This new generation only watched the dominance of Woods in the majors. They didn't have to face it.

The Open is another opportunity to see if Woods can regain his mystique.
