Phil Burton
I arrived at WFTV 9-HD in June of 2008, from Boston, where I co-hosted a nightly sports program called Out of Bounds on CN8. I was part of the CN8 sports team since the New England network launched in 2003.I have had the opportunity to cover some of the most significant sports stories in that region, including the historic Boston Red Sox 2004 season, as well as the Patriots victories in Super Bowls XXXVIII and XXXIX. I also provided sideline commentary for live CN8 sports coverage. My roots in team sports run deep, as my father was the first draft pick ever selected by the New England Patriots franchise. I attended Northwestern University, in Evanston, Illinois, where I experienced Big Ten college football first hand as a player and earned a double Master's in journalism.Working with kids in the community is very important to me. I am co-director of the Ron Burton Training Village, a five-week program my father founded for underprivileged youth. While living in Boston, I also had the pleasure of teaching Sunday school to middle school children.Prior to getting into broadcasting, I worked for DreamWorks Studios, marketing Steven Spielberg movies such as Amistad and Saving Private Ryan. I love watching movies. My favorite sports flick is Remember the Titans with Rocky III as a close second. When I'm not working, I enjoy hanging out with my wife, Lavita, and kids, Luke and Jasmine.
