Steve Barrett
I joined the Eyewitness News team in June of 2003 as a general assignment reporter. My stories air each weekday at 5:00pm, 5:30pm and 6:00pm on WFTV and on WRDQ.I have lived in Florida since high school at Northeast High in St. Petersburg. I also lived in Sauk Prairie, Wisconsin in high school. I have a BA in Communication (Radio/TV/Film) from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. While attending college, I worked for a CBS affiliate getting my feet wet (and snowy) as a news photographer in Wausau. From there, I came back home to Florida and worked for several TV stations over the next 15 years, including WPTV in West Palm Beach, and WTVT and WFTS in Tampa. In my career I've been a reporter, photographer, editor, director, producer and managing editor. I have won numerous awards: 6 Emmys, 2 Associated Press awards, a Green Eyeshade award, and more than a dozen Society of Professional Journalists awards.I have covered Florida from every angle. I was one of the first reporters on the scene at Kennedy Space Center after the Columbia disaster. I was also one of the first reporters into the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina, and have ridden out more than a dozen storms including Charley, Frances, Jeanne, Wilma, Fay and Gustav. I've extensively covered the Caylee Anthony Saga and am a regular guest on the Daily Buzz on WRDQ TV-27.
