Starace, Schwank Land In Austrian Open QFs
Kitzbuhel, Austria (Sports Network) - Fourth-seeded Italian Potito Starace and fifth-seeded Argentine Eduardo Schwank were a couple of second- round winners Wednesday at the clay-court Austrian Open.The 2007 Kitzbuhel runner-up Starace stopped Austrian wild card Daniel Koellerer 6-4, 6-3, while the rising Schwank subdued German qualifier Daniel Brands 6-1, 6-4 at Sportpark. Starace, who lost to Argentine Juan Monaco in last year's final here, will meet Schwank in Friday's quarterfinals. In other Day-3 action, Romanian Victor Hanescu stayed red hot with a 6-2, 6-1 pasting of Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Argentine Brian Dabul dumped Czech Ivo Minar 6-4, 6-3. Hanescu has won seven straight matches, including his first-ever ATP title in Gstaad last week. He will face Dabul in the quarters. On Thursday, second-round matches will come for second-seeded Wimbledon semifinalist Rainer Schuettler of Germany, sixth-seeded Austrian favorite Jurgen Melzer and last week's Stuttgart champion Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina. The 2008 Kitzbuhel titlist will claim $185,000.
