Verdasco, Moya Reach Umag Quarters

Umag, Croatia -- (Sports Network) - Spanish stars Fernando Verdasco and Carlos Moya were among Wednesday's second-round winners at the clay-court Croatia Open Umag.The top-seeded Verdasco got past French qualifier Mathieu Montcourt 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, while the five-time Umag titlist Moya came back to beat Serb Viktor Troicki 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 at ITC Stella Maris. Moya, seeded third this week, beat Romanian Andrei Pavel in last year's Umag finale, also titled here in 1996 and from 2001-03, and was the runner- up in 2005. Verdasco will meet German Mischa Zverev in Friday's quarterfinals, while Moya will take on seventh-seeded Italian Fabio Fognini. In other Day-3 action, Fognini took out fellow Italian and two-time Umag finalist Filippo Volandri 6-4, 6-4 and Zverev upended eighth-seeded Brazilian Marcos Daniel 6-4, 6-2. Volandri reached back-to-back finals here in 2003 and 2004. On Thursday, second-round matches will come for Croatian crowd favorites Ivo Karlovic and Ivan Ljubicic, the second and fifth seeds, respectively. The 2008 Umag champion will collect $86,000.
