Verdasco, Andreev Advance To Finals In Umag

Saturday, July 19, 2008

(Sports Network) - Top-seeded Spaniard Fernando Verdasco and fourth-seeded Russian Igor Andreev will meet in the final of the clay-court Croatia Open Umag after breezing through their respective semifinal matches on Saturday.

Seventh-seeded Fabio Fognini was attempting to pull off back-to-back upsets, having upended five-time Umag champion Carlos Moya of Spain in the quarterfinals on Friday. However, Fognini stood no match for Verdasco, who cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win.

Andreev, who was last week's Gstaad runner-up, sputtered to a straight set victory over unseeded Argentine Maximo Gonzalez. After a quick first set, Andreev was pushed to a tiebreaker in the second, but came away victorious with a final score of 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).

The 2008 Umag champion will collect $86,000.
