Montreal, QC -- (Sports Network) - Unranked Dominika Cibulkova and seventh-seeded Dinara Safina each posted semifinal victories Saturday at the $1.34 million Rogers Cup.The Slovakian Cibulkova squared off in an epic contest with French 10th-seed Marion Bartoli and emerged victorious in a three-setter which was delayed twice by weather. After Bartoli took the nearly one-hour first set by a 6-4 count, play was suspended by rain for another hour. Cibulkova then took a 2-1 edge in the second before the deluge halted play once again. Play did not resume until well after 9 p.m. and saw Cibulkova fall behind 4-3 only to record the final three points of the set. The 19-year-old then wrote her ticket into the final by easing to a 6-3 decision in the final set, completing a match whose playing time went almost two hours, 45 minutes. Cibulkova had posted a surprise straight-set 7-5, 6-2 victory over top-ranked Jelena Jankovic Friday while the 10th-seeded Bartoli gutted out an injury- halted 6-2, 6-3 win over Ai Sugiyama. In the late semifinal, Safina posted a tense 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Belarussian opponent and 11th-seeded Victoria Azarenka. The Russian cruised through the first set in mere minutes before a complete turnaround in the second stanza. However, the lanky 22-year-old, who had won 25 of her last 28 matches coming into Saturday recovered nicely to eventually punch her ticket to Sunday's final. The seventh-ranked Safina defeated fellow Russian and last year's U.S. Open runner-up Svetlana Kuznetsova 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 Friday. Azarenka stopped Tamira Paszek's run with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph. The 2008 Rogers Cup titlist will collect $196,900.
