Wozniacki Routs Dushevina In Stockholm Finals

POSTED: 12:28 pm EDT August 3, 2008

(Sports Network) - Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark trounced Russian Vera Dushevina in straight sets to win the $145,000 Nordic Light Open Sunday.

The fourth-seeded Wozniacki dominated from the start en route to claiming an easy 6-0, 6-2 win for her first WTA title.

The 18-year-old Dane, who is the youngest player to win a WTA title this year, was playing in her first final. Wozniacki did reach the semifinals in Tokyo last year and Portoroz last week.

Dushevina is now 0-3 lifetime in Tour singles finals, having also finished as runner-up at Eastbourne in 2005 and Stockholm in 2007.

Earlier Sunday, Wozniacki downed top-seeded defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Dushevina bested 2005 winner Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia, 6-1, 6-2, in the other semi.

Both matches were rained out Saturday.

"I'm very happy I've won my first title. It's always tough to play two matches on the same day, but Vera had to do it as well," Wozniacki said. "At the start I had her under pressure and I think that frustrated her. She played better in the second set and began putting pressure on me instead. She had break points at 2-all there and I think getting out of that was the key to the match."

Wozniacki earned $22,925 for her efforts.
