Petrova And Dechy To Square Off In Cincy Final

Saturday, August 16, 2008

(Sports Network) - Second-seeded Nadia Petrova upended third-seeded Maria Kirilenko to secure her spot in Sunday's championship match at the $175,000 Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open, a hardcourt U.S. Open tune-up.

Petrova rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 win in an all-Russian semifinal bout that lasted one hour and 47 minutes. She will be vying for her eighth career WTA singles title.

The 26-year-old will meet Nathalie Dechy, who prevailed in two hours and nine minutes with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over fifth-seeded Amelie Mauresmo in an all-French semifinal match. Dechy will be playing in her first WTA final since New Haven in 2004. She also improved to 3-5 lifetime against Mauresmo.

The last time these two met, Petrova scored a decisive 7-5, 7-5 win over Dechy at Eastbourne in 2007.

This week's champion will collect $28,000.
