Driver found shot in head on SR 408 in Orange County, deputies say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies said they are investigating the shooting of a man who was found on State Road 408 in east Orange County.

The call was reported around 6 p.m. Thursday in the west lanes of State Road 408 between Semoran Boulevard and Goldenrod Road.

Deputies said Craig Arroyo, 21, was driving a white two-door Honda when he was shot. A passerby found Arroyo semiconscious in the driver's seat. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, investigators said.

Investigators said Arroyo suffered two gunshot wounds to the head. There were seven holes on the driver's side of the car, authorities said.

Eyewtinesses told Channel 9's Ken Tyndall that a woman was screaming and waving frantically on the side of the road.

"I just pulled over real quick and ran back there and saw the gentleman in the car behind me, bleeding. I broke the window and tried to help him out the best I could," said eyewitness Zach Pamer.

SR 408 west from Goldenrod Road was shut down until 10 p.m.

Authorities said they believe Arroyo was shot prior to getting onto SR 408, but they are unsure where.

Detectives are looking for witnesses who might have information about a suspect vehicle description or any information about the incident.

No other details have been released.
