Troopers: Car didn't yield to ambulance before crash in Merritt Island

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — A paramedic and a driver are recovering after state troopers said a car didn't yield to an ambulance in Brevard County.

The crash happened Monday on Merritt Island.

Troopers said the ambulance was headed to a medical emergency and had its lights and sirens on.

"I was just so thankful that we had stopped and the light hadn't been green yet, because if it would have, we would have been in the middle of it," witness Lisa Votaw said.

A fire engine was already at the emergency the ambulance was headed to.

Another ambulance took that patient to the hospital.

The crash is under investigation.
