Woman charged with DUI, homicide after fatal roll-over crash, troopers say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — One person was killed and two were injured after a roll-over crash in Marion County that the Florida Highway Patrol said was caused by a drunken driver.

Suzana Bici, 23, was at the wheel Sunday morning when she lost control of her vehicle along 160th Avenue in Fort McCoy, troopers said.

The car flipped and one of Bici’s passengers, Joel Smerkers, 30, was killed, investigators said.

Two other passengers were injured, one critically, troopers said.

The injured passengers were not identified.

Bici was charged with giving false information to police, driving under the influence, driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury to others, homicide/negligent manslaughter, and killing of a human being with a vehicle.

She was being held at the Marion County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $56,000.
