DELAND, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff's Office continues to look for the man accused of burglarizing the home of an 87-year-old Florida man who was hit in the face during the incident and later died.

The Sheriff's Office said in a statement Friday that they were still looking for the suspect who struggled with Carl Husfeld, causing him to be hit in the face by a door during a burglary at his DeLand, Florida home on Dec. 8, 2016.

The burglary was reported at about 7 a.m. on Oak Circle.

Husfeld started bleeding profusely from the nose and the man escaped.

Husfeld was taken to a hospital where he was treated for several fractures to bones in his face.

He was later taken off life support and died.

Husfeld, a father of two sons and a daughter, was a longtime DeLand-area resident who owned a farm and employed several people over the years, the Sheriff's Office said.

Anyone with information on the burglary or Husfeld's death is asked to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.westopcrime.com, or by phone, at 888-277-TIPS.
