Extremely hot temperatures and increasing humidity in Central Florida

Orlando, Fla. — The 90s stretch starts across Central Florida and the humidity also rapidly increases through the weekend.

Temperatures will be in the mid-90s on Friday, staying in the low-90s through the weekend. The heat index -- the real feel of the temperatures -- will be between the mid-90s to 100 degrees.

A strong ridge, or high pressure system in the upper level of the atmosphere, is building over Florida. A high pressure in upper levels brings sinking air, as the air sinks it warms. In lower levels, there is a high pressure area over the eastern Atlantic providing southerly winds, which also aid warming across the Florida Peninsula

           EXTREME TEMPERATURES: SAFETY TIPS

There was not humidity during the beginning of this week, which also made the temperatures warm quick, feeling warm, but not muggy, and evening temperatures cooled faster. With humidity increasing in our area, we are expecting muggy days and suppressing heat. Please stay hydrated as conditions could be dangerous if not prepared.

How are you cooling down? post you pictures on our WFTV Weather page

     IN YOUR CITY: HOUR-BY-HOUR TEMPERATURES

Anyone planning on being outdoors, should hydrate well before heading to do activities, in order to get the body ready to battle the heat. Eating light meals help keep the body cool and if you work outdoors make sure to take breaks under the shade more often than normal.

2015: 45 people died because
of heat in the U.S.

On average (10-year and-30 year), heat is the leading cause of death relating to weather hazards

Significant rain continues to be absent from our forecast at least through early next week.

We are closely watching the evolution of two troughs traveling southward. One brushing northern Florida early next week and a stronger one at the end of next week that has a better chance of bringing rain.  It is too far out to tell if this will materialize or not and how much rain we could possibly get.

We will continue to bring prompt updates on our newscasts starting at 5 a.m. and on Eyewitness News starting at 4 p.m., evening edition at 11 p.m.
