• Most Central Fla. schools will remain open Monday; Polk County cancels classes


    POLK COUNTY, Fla. - While Tropical Storm Isaac makes its way north, most schools across Central Florida said classes are still scheduled for Monday. So far, Polk County is the only district that has opted to cancel school for the day.

    Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole, Volusia, Brevard and Marion counties have not canceled classes at this time.

    In Seminole County, all afterschool activities and practices have been canceled.  Elementary Extended Day and 21st Century Community Learning Centers will remain open.

    Polk County officials said they made the decision to cancel school because of the threat of severe weather. Officials determined the weather could affect the safety of students who ride buses or take classes in portable classrooms.

    All school-related activities are also canceled on Monday, and Polk County school district offices will be closed, officials said. Polk County officials said they have not made a decision on whether school will reopen on Tuesday.
