Light but persistent rainfall should taper by Sunday evening

ORLANDO, Fla. — Although it's been wet today, with passing showers all day, rainfall in most locations has just been a few hundredths of an inch or less. It's all because the rain has been generally light and brief in any given location.

A bit of good news is we haven't had much lighting today and there's very little chance for any during tonight's vigil at Lake Eola.

Plan on brief passing showers to continue through the late afternoon with the spotty rain gradually tapering by the evening.

The chance for a passing shower during the vigil is relatively low, but not out of the question. Go ahead and take your rain poncho along, but realize that it's more likely you'd need it on your way to the event, which begins at 7:30 p.m. than during the vigil itself.

Here's a quick look at Future Track 9, timing out the passing showers for the remainder of the afternoon.

Sunday is certainly nicer than what we saw on Saturday, when severe storms packed a punch across central Florida. The storms first fired up midday around Flagler and Marion counties, building southward through the afternoon. As they pushed through Volusia, a brief funnel cloud formed near DeLand.

By the end of the day, we had several severe thunderstorm warnings with 50+ mph wind gusts reported in Fern Park, Seminole County and Indialantic, Brevard County.

The storms also brought down a massive tree in Apopka…as shown by this video by Paula Wells.
