Lunch hour showers expected, followed by drier hours

Heavy showers and thunderstorms arrived to Sumter County from the West around 5 a.m. marching to the metro area at about 30 miles per hour.

Some storms became severe producing dime to golf size hail, downpours and at one point close to 500 lightning strikes within 15 minutes.

Estimate rainfall amounts through 11 a.m. generally stayed below half an inch with some isolated spots such as in Kissimmee and Haines City with approximately 1.5 inches.

Dry air has filtered in over Florida’s panhandle and will be arriving to Central Florida by Wednesday afternoon.

A few more showers and thunderstorms are possible early afternoon before the front continues to move to the south.

After the cold front’s passage, temperatures will feel much cooler that days past. By 8 p.m. temperatures will be in the low 70s quickly dropping to the low 60s just before sunrise on Thursday.

Lluvias torrenciales y tormentas severas entraron desde el oeste al Condado Sumter cerca de las 5 a.m. y se movían al este alrededor de 30 millas por hora.

Algunas tormentas fueron severas produciendo granizo del tamaño de una moneda de 10 centavos hasta del tamaño de una pelota de golf. Cerca de 500 descargas de eléctricas en un periodo de 15 minutos también se registraron.

Acumulados de lluvia aproximados (hasta las 11 a.m.), generalizados de media pulgadas y zonas aisladas de 1.5 pulgadas en Kissimmee y Haines City.

Todavía algunas lluvias y tormentas son posibles hasta las 3 p.m. en el área metro. El riesgo de tormentas severas se traslada al sur de Florida esta tarde.

Después del paso del frente frio, esperamos temperaturas más frescas. A las 8 p.m. en el rango bajo de los 70 y justo antes del amanecer el jueves las temperaturas estarían en los bajos 60.
