SpaceX successfully launches 15th Starlink mission from Cape Canaveral on Saturday

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE:

SpaceX successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket Saturday morning from Kennedy Space Center.

The mission is the 15th carrying the constellation of networked satellites known as Starlink.

The Falcon 9 rocket was carrying a batch of 60 Starlink satellites, aimed at creating a network to provide reliable and affordable internet across the globe.

Despite some cloud cover, the weather remained favorable and the rocket lifted off at 11:31 a.m.

The SpaceX team also successfully landed the Falcon 1st stage booster rocket on a drone ship, This was the third time SpaceX has retrieved this particular booster rocket.

SpaceX plans to launch the Falcon 9 GPS III SV04 and the Falcon 9 Crew-1 mission in mid-November, although specific dates have not be announced.

SpaceX was set to launch its 15th Starlink from Cape Canaveral on Wednesday, October 21, but the mission was postponed until Thursday, October 22. Then on Thursday the mission was postponed due to “a small issue with loss of upper stage camera," explained Elon Musk.

SpaceX will attempt to launch the microsatellites at 11:31 a.m. Saturday. If the mission takes off it will make the 3rd Starlink mission launched in one month, a new record for SpaceX.

Although the weather was not the cause for the scrub on Thursday, weather conditions will be more favorable for Saturday’s launch.

The launch is the company’s 15th Starlink mission. The Falcon 9 rocket will carry at least 60 satellites to space. It is part of the goal to create a constellation network that will provide internet services to rural areas perhaps struggling with internet issues or don’t have reliable and affordable connections.

The company has a goal to have at least 14,000 satellites orbiting Earth, improving communications across the world.

This would mark SpaceX’s 19th launch this year.
