HURRICANE MATTHEW: Road conditions as storm approaches

FLORIDA — INTERSTATE 4 TRAFFIC:

Traffic along I-4, in Osceola County is extremely slow, due to the high volume of traffic. Congestion starts around mile marker 57 westbound and continues until mile marker 75. There are a few crashes along the interstate, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Drivers need to be patient, FHP said, and extra troopers are patrolling Interstate 4 to assist motorists with any problems.

STATE ROAD 429 - APOPKA:

Crews this afternoon are scheduled to close Connector Road to through traffic at

near US 441.  This will prevent travel under the new bridge, built as part of the

,

during high winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Matthew. The intersection will remain closed until the storm passes and the condition of the work zone has been assessed.

No through traffic will be allowed on the Connector Road at SR 429. The SR 429 northbound left-turn lanes at the Connector Road will be closed. The SR 429 northbound right-turn lane onto the Connector Road will remain open to provide access to Plymouth Sorrento Road and US 441.

Motorists on Plymouth Sorrento Road who wish to go south on SR 429 must turn right onto US 441, and then turn right onto the Connector Road to access the southbound SR 429 ramp.

FLORIDA TURNPIKE:

Florida’s Turnpike will begin on Thursday the phased closure of at least seven Turnpike service plazas, beginning with the southernmost facilities Snapper Creek (Milepost 19) and Pompano Beach (Milepost 65).

Food and fuel services will not be available.

Snapper Creek (Milepost 19): Closing at 12 p.m.
Pompano Beach (Milepost 65): Closing at 12 p.m.
Lake Worth/West Palm Beach (Milepost 94) Closing at 1 p.m. 
Fort Pierce/Port St. Lucie (Milepost 144): Closing at 2:30 p.m.
Fort Drum (Milepost 184): Closing at 4 p.m.
Canoe Creek (Milepost 229): Closing at 5:30 p.m.
Turkey Lake (Milepost 263): Closing at 7 p.m.

The closures are necessary to ensure the safety of plaza workers.

All Turnpike service plazas will reopen after Matthew passes and all the structures are deemed safe for operation and occupation.
