Water spout forms during Tropical Storm Colin

A water spout was captured Monday morning during a Hurricane Hunter mission of Tropical Storm Colin.

The Hurricane Hunters are aircrews that fly into tropical cyclones in the North Atlantic Ocean and Northeastern Pacific Ocean to gather weather data.

The picture was taken Monday on the Gulf side of Florida.

The hunters gather wind speed data throughout the day to determine if the storm is getting stronger or weaker. It’s also used to determine when the hurricane is approaching a coastline and is going to make landfall, according to the Hurricane Hunters Association.

The information is then given to forecasters at the National Hurricane Center, who determine how much of the coast needs to be evacuated, as well as which types of watches and warnings to issue.
