Water spout spotted off New Smryna Beach

Alicia Bloekmer captured the early stages of a water spout off New Smyrna Beach.

Channel 9 viewer Alicia Bloekmer captured the early stages of a water spout that formed Saturday morning off New Smyrna Beach.

The water spout is a sign that Central Florida has a better chance to see rain this weekend, said certified Meteorologist Brian Shields.

Some rain is already starting to pop up across Central Florida, but there is a 50 percent chance for rain on Sunday which could help the area’s drought conditions.

The extremely dry conditions have led to dozens of wild fires in the area.

It could also be another dangerous weekend at the beaches. The red flags are flying due to the high rip current risk.
