With the failure of the "Top Kill" procedure in recent days, British Petroleum is now ready to try other ways to fix the broken oil well in the Gulf of Mexico. And President Obama is looking for other ways to deal with it as well.
Today the President will meet with the leadership of a commission he has established to look at the causes of this environmental disaster, as he sits down with former Sen. Bob Graham (D-FL) and former EPA Chief William Reilly, who worked for the first President Bush.
Mr. Obama will then speak to reporters around 12:15pm in the White House Rose Garden.
Congress isn't around this week - it's a Congressional break - so the White House will have full control of the news from Washington, D.C. on the oil leak.
Watch to see whether the President and his Administration are on the offensive, or playing defense this week with the latest on the oil spill.
The President will try to set the News Narrative with this White House meeting today and his own remarks, leaving the blitz of questions to the White House briefing room and Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, though the administration now wants former Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Thad Allen to be the focus of BP questions each day.
One final thought on this issue, is that today is the start of Hurricane season.
I don't even have to tell you how much this Administration will feel the heat if a hurricane starts blowing through the Gulf of Mexico.
Not only will the story be about what happens to the oil, but what about other oil platforms and their safety/security.
Stay tuned on this one. The White House is going to have to do its homework to stay out of the way of this steamroller of a story.
