You’ve probably heard the rumors by now; if you haven’t , let Toyota of Orlando fill you in. There’s been a huge swirl of suppositions surrounding the 2013 Scion FR-S lately, culminating in the unveiling of a new concept car at the Geneva Motor Show last week. As if this car wasn’t already impressive enough, Toyota and Scion are working on new ideas to extend its reach to an even broader group of drivers. Let’s take a look at some of the most prominent rumors we’ve heard! 

Will an open-top option be making its way to Toyota of Orlando? 

First things first – the concept car that was unveiled last week in Geneva was an open-top Scion FR-S, and man, we were impressed. Toyota has taken the already super-sporty Scion and integrated a whole new element of the driving experience, as well as a different (but still incredibly appealing) style. The open-top model is still just a concept, but those who have been able to catch a sneak peek are insisting it looks like it’s almost production ready! Let’s take a closer look: 

• The convertible model of the Orlando Scion FR-S would include a soft-top that folds back into the trunk, as well as a real glass rear window. Toyota is working to ensure that the new design won’t impede on the cargo space in the trunk
  
• It’ll still seat up to four passengers (with more head room now, obviously) 
  
• The drivetrain will be the same. When you explore this option, you’ll find the same flat Boxer engine that cranks out 151 lb-ft of torque and 200 horsepower. Toyota is apparently still experimenting with the car because they don’t want to affect the curb weight too much – this can have an effect on performance.

Will you be able to go green in a hybrid Scion sports car?

Another rumor intimates that hybrid technology might make its way under the hood of the next Scion FR-S in Orlando – this would be especially interesting, as it would extend the appeal of the car to drivers who want to go green (and save a TON of money on gas). The possibility of a hybrid Scion sports car is an exciting one – let’s take peek at what we’ve heard: 

• The hybrid option is a possibility, but it’s a challenge for Toyota. They’ll have to figure out how to integrate the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive System technology into the existing vehicle without affecting performance – after all, this sports car is known for its great handling and exciting performance capabilities. 
  
• Integrating Toyota’s renowned hybrid technology into this car would decrease the smog-forming emissions it releases. It would also drastically improve fuel efficiency, as hybrids utilize an electric motor in addition to the traditional gasoline engine. 
  

A third and final rumor – and this is the one we have very few details on – is that Toyota is playing with the idea of integrating a supercharger into their iconic sports car. We’ll just have to wait and see!
