Election Day showers, hump day chill! That's what's happening tonight across central Florida as, after sunset, temperatures have quickly fallen into the 50s areawide. This is all in the aftermath of a cold front that brought some showers to central Florida polling locations Tuesday, one batch coming early in the day and another around the evening drive time. In fact, Wednesday marked the coolest afternoon so far this season across the area, as temperatures only reached 67 degrees in Orlando, some 13 degrees below average for this time of year.

With high pressure overhead and a reinforcing cold front moving through, it'll be a chilly night with just about everyone dropping into the 40s. There will even be some upper 30s to start Thursday across our northwest counties. While not record cold (records for tonight are in the low 40s and upper 30s), it will be the second coldest night of the season -- falling behind only Halloween morning when the temperature dropped to 44 in Orlando. Even with a lot of sunshine Thursday, temperatures will stay in the 60s again with another cold night for central Florida Thursday night into early Friday as temperatures again drop into the 40s.

A warming trend will take us into the weekend as the chilly area of high pressure moves offshore and brings the wind off the water. We will add more clouds to the sky as the weekend goes on, but also a few degrees each day: temperatures Friday will be in the low to mid 70s, mid 70s on Saturday, with highs near 80 on Sunday. It will be breezy, though, so boating conditions will be a bit rough headed into the weekend.

In the Northeast: The same system that's brought two cold fronts through central Florida has turned into a Nor'easter for our friends in the Northeast, many of the same folks who were so affected by Hurricane Sandy. Already tonight 6-10" of snow has fallen over parts of Connecticut with 1-4" falling from near the Jersey shore up through New York City. Snow will continue to fall through late this evening across the northern Mid Atlantic and continue through the morning farther up the coast. Tranquil (albeit cold) weather builds in behind the storm.

Have a great night!
