Dreams Can Come True; Atlanta Notches First Franchise Win

Saturday, July 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - Ivory Latta and Jennifer Lacy poured in 18 points apiece, as the Atlanta Dream persevered for their first ever WNBA victory, 91-84, over the Chicago Sky.

Atlanta brought several unsettling streaks to an end, including halting its new WNBA record 17-game losing streak to begin a season.

The Dream had six players in double figures, beating a Chicago team that, despite owning the league's second-worst record, took both matchups in a home- and-home series last month against Atlanta.

Jia Perkins had a game-high 24 points and Candice Dupree chipped in 19 for the Sky, who lost their second straight contest.

The Dream led by 11 at halftime behind 51.9 percent shooting from the field. However, the Sky used a 31-18 third-quarter edge to regain a 66-64 lead before Atlanta put the game away by going seven-of-eight from the charity stripe in the final minute.
