Hammon, Whalen Named WNBA Players Of The Week

New York, NY -- (Sports Network) - Becky Hammon of the San Antonio Silver Stars and the Connecticut Sun's Lindsay Whalen were selected as the WNBA's top players for the period ending July 13.Hammon took the Western Conference award after averaging 21.7 points, 5.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds. Hammon set the team record for made free throws in an 83-79 victory over the Liberty on July 8, when she was 14-of-15 from the line. It was the fourth career weekly honor for Hammon, who is a four-time All-Star. Whalen took the Eastern Conference award after averaging 26.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 3.5 steal in the Sun's two games this past week. Whalen also shot 58.6 percent from the field this week en route to her second honor this season. However, despite Whalen's individual success, Connecticut was winless, falling to both Detroit and Washington.
