Sun Remain Scorching With Win Over Sky

Friday, September 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - Veteran Tamika Whitmore paced Connecticut with 17 points and five rebounds as the Sun topped the Chicago Sky, 80-75.

Barbara Turner came off the bench to chip in 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from three-point range in helping the Sun to their seventh consecutive victory. Rookie Amber Holt added 11 points for the victors.

Jia Perkins led all scorers with 18 points and Sylvia Fowles contributed 16 points and six rebounds for Chicago, which has dropped two straight. Candice Dupree and Chasity Melvin logged 13 and 12 points, respectively, in defeat.

The Sky hung tough with the Eastern Conference leaders as the clubs headed into the final stanza deadlocked at 58 apiece. But the Sun, who hit 10-of-22 from behind the arc, outscored their opponent 22-17 in the final 10 minutes to come away victorious.
