ORLANDO, Fla. - More than 800 people participated in the Pulse 4.9K Community Rainbow Run Saturday morning.
The walk-and-run started at Wadeview Park near Kaley Street and Orange Avenue about a block away from the Pulse nightclub site.
Organizers held the event in honor of the 49 people killed in the Pulse shooting nearly a year ago.
Participants passed by the site of the tragedy during the run.
People from all over the country participated in the event.
“It was a somber run but it was also uplifting and we all held hands and crossed the finish line in solidarity and I thought that was a beautiful thing,” said Carlos Smith, runner.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the OnePulse Foundation—established by the owner of Pulse, Barbara Poma, and the Zebra Coalition.
