9 things to do this weekend: ZORA! Festival, collector car auction and more

ORLANDO, Fla — Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are nine things happening in Central Florida.


1. 33rd annual ZORA! Festival

Themed as “Celebrations for the Generations,” organizers said the 33rd annual festival will kick off beginning with “Gathering and Gabbing: Zora Neale Hurston Book Club,” featuring author Valerie Boyd, on the birthdate of the event’s namesake on Friday, Jan. 7.

The 2022 month long ZORA! Festival continues through to Sunday, Jan. 30, with weekday highlights that include the Zora Neale Hurston National Museum of Fine Arts opening exhibition “Afrofuturism in the Visual Realm”; Art in Eatonville; Yards and Gardens Eatonville; Africa-America Women’s Forum; Afrofuturism Conference; and the ninth annual ZORA! STEM Conference for Middle School Students.

2. World’s largest collector car auction returns to Kissimmee

Mecum Auctions is returning to Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee for the 17th annual edition of the world’s largest collector car auction.

The auction will run from Thursday, Jan. 6 to Jan. 16, featuring an estimated 3,500 vehicles; daily Road Art selections; the Mecum Midway of food, exhibitors and various live entertainment acts; and the Dodge Thrill Ride.

3. Orlando Magic vs. Washington Wizards

The Orlando Magic will take on the Washington Wizards at the Amway Center.

The game starts at 6 p.m.

4. Immersive Van Gogh Orlando

It’s the last weekend to visit the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit at the Orange County Convention Center.

The exhibit is bringing the impressionist painter’s work to life through Jan. 9.

5. Dazzling Nights : An immersive holiday light experience

Immerse yourself in the wonder of the holidays at Orlando’s historic Leu Gardens.

Dazzling Nights will shine through Jan. 9.

6. Daytona Beach RV Show

The Daytona Beach RV Show is driving into town this weekend at the Daytona International Speedway.

The show will start at 9 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The event is free to attend. Parking is also free.

7. Lunch & Learn: Collecting From Seven Counties

This weekend you can get a peek inside the Orange County Regional History Center and Heritage Square Park’s collection.

Staff will be showcasing seven fascinating artifacts, one from each of the seven counties in our collecting region.

The event is virtual and starts at noon.

8. 2022 Interfaith Multicultural Celebration

The Interfaith Multicultural Celebration will be held this weekend in Orlando.

The celebration’s theme will be “The Simple Art of Living Together” and the event speaker will be Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith.

It starts at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

9. Asian Lantern Festival: Into the Wild

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens has opened a dazzling nighttime event, “Asian Lantern Festival: Into the Wild.”

The display features more than 100 larger-than-life lanterns spread throughout the zoo.

The event runs at night, outside normal zoo operation hours, until Jan. 16.
