ORLANDO, Fla — The worst-kept secret in the NWSL is official. Alex Morgan will join expansion club San Diego Wave FC for the 2022 season.
On Monday, the Wave posted an announcement on social media welcoming Morgan to the club, followed by a retweet from Alex herself.

Morgan is from California, and so it was not surprising to many that once the NWSL expanded with two California-based teams, the San Diego Wave and Angel City FC, that Alex would be a target to be traded.

In the last month, the Orlando Pride have traded many of their high-profile players, including goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris, defender Ali Krieger and now Alex Morgan.
Morgan has helped the U.S. Woman’s National Team win two World Cups, an Olympic gold medal, and was on the Portland Thorns squad that won the NWSL title in 2013.
The Orlando Pride sent out the following statement, “The Orlando Pride has worked with forward Alex Morgan to secure a trade that is mutually-beneficial for the Club’s future success and Alex’s goals, both personal and professional. The Pride are extremely appreciative of the professionalism and commitment that Alex has shown to the Club over the last six seasons, and respect her desire to play closer to family at this point in her career.”
The trade leaves defender Toni Pressley as the last original player on the Orlando Pride roster.
