Florida COVID-19 reporting system back up after data snafu

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health’s COVID-19 reporting system is back up and running as of Monday.

Another data problem involving hundreds of thousands of test results caused delays over the weekend.

The trouble unfolded Saturday after Department of Health disease experts discovered hundreds of thousands of COVID-19 test results from a private lab had somehow duplicated themselves in the system.

Sorting through the massive size of that data and making corrections tied up the automatic reporting process for the next 24 hours.

Eyewitness News learned the test results originated from out of state genomics researcher, Helix Laboratory.

Helix isn’t affiliated with Florida, and state officials said this weekend’s data dilemma wasn’t an error by Helix of the Department of Health.
