UCF officials to discuss campus reopening plan following spike of local COVID-19 cases

ORLANDO, Fla. — University of Central Florida’s Board of Trustees will meet again to talk about the best way to bring students back to campus.

The discussion comes as Seminole County leaders said the UCF area could be a hot spot for new coronavirus cases after the county linked new cases to some bars there.

University officials’ current plan includes safety and sanitation measures for every student, staff member and visitors.

There would also be a phased move-in schedule before classes start on August 24.

Previously, officials discussed converting arenas and other large areas into classrooms and encouraging those who may be vulnerable to the coronavirus to work or study remotely.

Trustees were also told there would be a major focus on testing and contact tracing. Students may also be offered apps to track their health and who they’ve been in contact with.

Any plan must be reviewed and approved by the state’s board of governors before it can be made official.
