• US Coast Guard suspends search for Florida swimmer

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for a man who went swimming in a Florida beach.

The agency said in a news release on Sunday that crews searched for 27 hours along the Gulf of Mexico coast but they were unable to locate the missing man.

The agency received a report of a person in the water at Panama City Beach who was struggling to return to shore on Friday. He was described as a 20-year-old white man with long black hair who was wearing black shorts.

Cmdr. Matthew Derrenbacher says "The decision to suspend a search is never easy and our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the missing man during this difficult time."
