Former Florida Senator Nelson praises pick of Harris as VP

ORLANDO, Fla. — Former Florida Senator Bill Nelson joined the chorus of Democrats praising the selection of Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s running mate, saying the selection of a former rival in the primary shows Biden is willing to build bridges and looking for differing points of view.

“One of the greatest strengths of President Lincoln was he surrounded himself with a team of political rivals and that turned out to be a very considerable strength for him to get him through those years of the civil war,” says Nelson.  “So too, I see Joe Biden overlooking the natural sharp elbows of a political campaign that he picks one of his political rivals that will now be one of his closest confidants.”

Nelson also had high praise for another person who was on the VP short-list; Florida Congresswoman Val Demings.

“Both of them are outstanding , Val I have known for years,” says Nelson. “She has done such an outstanding job and vaulted to the places where she is considered for such an important position.”
