1 dead, 1 hurt in murder-suicide attempt in Kissimmee

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Authorities are investigating an attempted murder-suicide in Kissimmee Tuesday night.

Investigators said they were called to a home on Poinsettia Lane and found the shooter dead.

A woman who was shot inside the Kissimmee home managed to pick up a phone and call for help after the terrifying ordeal.

She was airlifted to a local hospital, but her name and condition has not been released.

There is no word if the dead shooter opened fire on the victim and then shot him or herself.

There was never a search for a suspect.

A police spokesperson said the people are older but wouldn't give their ages or names.

Neighbors revealed an elderly woman lived in the house and was recently put up in a nursing home.

It's unclear if she's the victim.

"At this point we're still trying to put the pieces together. We don't know what the relationship between the two is. We're still trying to put it together," Stacie Miller of the Kissimmee Police Department said.

Neighbors were going about their evening when police swarmed the area around 5 p.m.

"It's unbelievable in this neighborhood," neighbor Kate Inman said.

"I didn't hear no gunshots or anything. I came out here and police were in full effect," neighbor Michael Fouts said.

Fouts said he remembered seeing police help someone walk away from the house.

"They walked her out, so I mean, that's good," Fouts said.

Investigators spent hours at the home taking pictures and documenting evidence.
