15-year-old stabbing suspect to be charged as adult

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A 15-year-old girl accused of slashing her ex-boyfriend with a steak knife at school will be charged as an adult, prosecutors said.

Loida Lalinde spent the last part of 2015 in juvenile detention after her Dec. 15 arrest. Now, she will be housed in a jail with adults.

Lalinde is accused of bringing the knife to Winter Springs High School and slashing her ex-boyfriend across the back.

The violent nature of the attack along with evidence that appears to show it was premeditated is likely the reason prosecutors chose to charge her as an adult, WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said.

Lalinde is facing charges of second-degree attempted homicide, interference with school functions, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon on school property.
