• Deputies: Love triangle led to Flagler man burned to death in car

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. - Two Flagler County men are in jail and have been charged with the torture and murder of a man found burned to death in the trunk of his own car last month near Jacksonville.

The victim, Edward Mullener, lived in Palm Coast and investigators said he knew the two men who killed him and left his body in the next county north.

Investigators said someone walking by found the still-smoldering car on a dirt road in the area of County Road 13 near Cowpen Branch Road last month.

Detectives in St. John's County charged Justin Boyles and Danny Massey with the crime.

"This man was not killed immediately. He was beaten, he was brought back to, they forced him to drink beer and burned him with a cigarette," said St. John's County Sheriff David Shoar.

Investigators said the motive for the violence was a woman, Antoinette Heart. They're calling it a love triangle between Heart, Boyles and the Mullener.

Massey allegedly assisted in the crime, and detectives are looking closely at Heart's involvement as well.

"She could very well be facing charges, and we're still evaluating that," Shoar said.

Investigators said Mullener's family helped identify his badly burned remains. They released a written statement that said, "We're happy that they were caught and that the family can begin to mourn now."
