2 women kidnapped from Aflac insurance office at gunpoint

Brevard county deputies are still searching for a robber who kidnapped two women at an insurance office.

The situation started inside an Aflac office on Merritt Island.

The man was already in the insurance office holding the first girl at gunpoint before the second girl got to work.

The robber then forced the women to withdraw cash from a Wells Fargo ATM.

He told one of the women it was about to be the worst day of her life.

One woman said she only had $30 in her checking account, so he settled for withdrawing $20 from the ATM.

The two women persuaded the suspect to drive them back to the office where they offered to write him a check. Then one of the girls called 911 and the gunman took off.

Employees around the Courtenay Shopping Plaza on Merritt Island weren't sure how to react after a man walked into the Aflac insurance office, struck up a conversation and then pulled out a gun.

Patty Gettel's Academy of Cosmetology office is just a couple of doors down.

"My heart was just pounding thinking what could have happened," Gettel said.

WFTV obtained a recording of the 911 call.

"I just locked myself in the office. …He said he don't want to hurt nobody. But, he's … he's literally taking drugs as he's got you at gunpoint," said one of the women on the call.

The suspect left in one of the victim's cars, a cream-colored 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante missing the front bumper with Florida plate 0182BU.

"They're OK, thank goodness they're OK," Gettel said.

At one point, the victims said they were driven down a dirt road.

They're trying to help deputies come up with a composite of the suspect.
