3 cases of monkeypox reported in Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — More cases of monkeypox are popping up in Central Florida.

The Department of Health in Seminole County reported its first case on Monday.

Orange County has added a second case. The first case was reported on Friday in Orange County.

There are now 13 confirmed or probable cases statewide.

Most cases are in South Florida.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said monkeypox can be serious, but it’s rare and currently a low threat to Americans.

The disease usually spreads by direct physical contact.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the disease starts with the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Backache
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Chills
  • Exhaustion

The illness typically lasts two to four weeks.

Doctors said washing your hands and sanitizing can help prevent you from getting monkeypox.
